This Just in, Social Media Marketing Works!
Well, it's not news to me, but it might be news to some businesses who still haven't realized the influence of social media marketing.

If you're literate and able to operate a computer, chances are you do the same as I do: search reviews on the product online.
A recent statistic from Channel Advisor shows that 83% of holiday shoppers make their consumption choices based off customer reviews.
Seems logical, right? If I want to buy the iPad, I'm better off asking someone who already owns one and the more people I can ask, the more information I will have to base my decision on. A well-informed decision is best in all situations. I can ask a friend who owns one, maybe two...or I can log in to the internet and find thousands of customer reviews. Not only does the internet provide me with various customer reviews, I also have the tools to help me find the right company to make my purchase from. If I'm in the market for a new car, I'll probably narrow my choices down via the internet before I even step foot into a car dealership.
In another statistic by Keller Fay, the average consumer mentions specific brands over 90 times a week in online conversations! If I hear about Macy's wonderful bedding inventory from my aunt through her Facebook posts and I happen to be in the market for a new comforter, the chance is high that I will check out Macy's inventory. This behavior explains a statistic by Media Post News that says, "Brands w/ highest social media activity" increased revenues by as much as 18%.
Having your brand name mentioned on the internet is much like TV or radio airtime but is proving more cost efficient and more influential.
Not only are the companies not paying for the word of mouth advertising, their past clients are doing the work for them.
Let's face it, none of us are experts on everything and so we will always to turn to others to help us in the areas we lack knowledge. That's why 43.7 percent of consumer electronics purchases are affected by word of mouth, according to BIGresearch.
Knowing that the majority of consumers go online to make their buying decisions, companies need to invest in social media marketing and make certain their brand is being represented positively. The best way is to offer great customer service, a pleasant buying experience and a quality product so your customers will recommend you to others. If social media marketing is the primary influence on consumer behaviors, companies need to build up their online reputations, branding themselves and their products world-wide.
